Summary

Abstract

This study aimed to prepare montmorillonite (MMT) clay modified with two different types of organic reagents and to evaluate the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the composites obtained by interacting this modified clay with the monomer/monomers of barium glass and hydroxyapatite and curing the mixture. In order to obtain better interface durability and interaction and to evaluate the effect of bonding agents, montmorillonite clay was modified with two different bonding agents ((3-methacryloxypropyl) trimethoxy silane (MPTS) and (cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide silane (CTAB)). Silanized clay (5, 7.5, 10 and 12%) and hydroxyapatite (0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5%) and barium glass at different weight percentages were used as inorganic matrices in the formulation of dental composites. As organic matrix, urethane-dimethacrylate (UDMA) was used as the basic monomer and Tri-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) was used as the diluent monomer at different ratios and the effect of monomer ratio on the composites was investigated. Then, structural analyzes of dental composites having the best water absorption, polymerization shrinkage, cure depth and strength were performed by XRD, FT-IR, TGA, DSC was evaluated by SEM analysis.
