First-row transition-metal catalyzed hydrogen transfer reactions

Project no. 23994 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022

Summary

Hydrogen transfer (HT) reactions are the catalytic release of hydrogen from one molecule and its simultaneous transfer to another molecule. This method can be used in reduction reactions as an alternative to traditional hydrogenation reactions. In addition, C-C and C-N bond formation reactions can be carried out in a single step by using the method called hydrogen borrowing which includes condensation reactions as well as hydrogen transfer reactions. In the presented project, it is aimed to convert ketones and alcohols into valuable organic products via catalytic hydrogen transfer reactions by using complexes containing first-row transition metals as catalysts. Alcohols and carbonyl compounds are very valuable classes of compounds used in the chemical industry. It is of great importance that these compounds can be selectively converted into each other or coupling reactions can be carried out by the hydrogen borrowing method. One of the most important points of this study is that first-row transition metal complexes (Co, Ni, etc.) will be used as catalysts instead of precious metals such as Rh, Ir, Ru, which have potential disadvantages such as high cost, limited abundance, toxicity, and difficulties in separation from final pharmaceutical derivatives.
