Summary
<p>To create a strong product design, it requires a wealth of knowledge in materials and involves</p><p>the critical process of selecting the right materials. It is indisputable that materials play a</p><p>crucial role in the design process. This study aims to establish the interaction between product</p><p>design and material research processes undertaken by designers based on empirical data. In</p><p>this context, it aims to guide designers by integrating multidisciplinary industrial design</p><p>principles with material science. The study focuses on examining the impact of material</p><p>mechanical properties on the structural behaviors of a monobloc stool design.</p><p>The study includes a literature review on the concept of material in design and the process of</p><p>material selection, along with design research that highlights the significance of materials in</p><p>the product context, using iconic monobloc stool designs from the modern design world.</p><p>Within the scope of the study, an original monobloc product design was created to observe</p><p>differences in structural properties of a design produced with different materials. A stool, a</p><p>widely used furniture item, was chosen for this design. Once the design process was</p><p>completed, the stool was modeled using computer-aided design programs. It was visualized</p><p>using materials selected based on material research and subjected to static stress analysis with</p><p>these materials. Thus, the structural impacts of materials on a design were quantitatively</p><p>compared and supported with data. It is anticipated that the insights derived from the</p><p>comparison results will contribute to the literature on design-material optimization. The study</p><p>aims to transform the information regarding the effects of material mechanical properties on a</p><p>designed product into a valuable resource for the field of industrial design and provide</p><p>guidance to future designers in their research endeavors.</p>
