NICKEL CATALYZED HYDROGEN AUTOTRANSFER REACTIONS
Project no. 23993 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022
Summary

Alcohols and ketones are important compounds that are widely used in organic synthesis. Considering the increasing interest in minimizing environmental problems caused by hazardous wastes generated in synthetic chemistry processes and thus developing environmentally friendly and economical synthetic processes, the use of cheap and easily accessible alcohols as electrophiles instead of expensive and toxic alkyl halides used for alkylation in traditional methods will provide a great advantage. For this purpose, new C-C bonds are formed by direct alkylation of ketones with primary alcohols in the presence of transition metal ([M]) containing catalysts and only water is released as a by-product. In the presented project, the synthesis of alkyl ketones will be carried out by alkylation of 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethyl acetophenone derivatives with secondary alcohols using Nickel-Salen complexes as catalysts. One of the most important points of this study is that there is no study in the literature so far on the synthesis of alkyl ketones by alkylation of 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethyl acetophenone derivatives with secondary alcohols with Nickel complexes. In the scope of this project, the catalytic effect of the changing electronic properties of Nickel complexes on the α-alkylation reaction will be investigated comprehensively. Afterward, the substrate scale will be expanded via the active catalyst.
