CAN THE OCCURRENCE OF TICS BE PREDICTED DURING METHYLPHENIDATE TREATMENT IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS DIAGNOSED WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT AND HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER WHO HAVE A HISTORY OR FAMILY HISTORY OF TIC DISORDER?:AN IMAGING STUDY
Project no. 166 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
It was aimed to determine whether the change in the severity of tics after psychostimulant treatment in children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with a past or family history of tic disorder could be predicted through basal ganglion volumes (especially caudate nucleus volume) and basal ganglion nuclei and corpus callosum frictional anisotropy values before psychostimulant use. For this purpose, 1230 children were evaluated in terms of inclusion and exclusion criteria. 15 children with ADHD aged 6-11 years (tic disorder history (n = 13) and tic disorder in family (n = 2)) were included in the study. 2 patients were excluded because of pineal tumor and methylphenidate-induced aggression. Structural magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging were performed before psychostimulant therapy was initiated. Methylphenidate-IR was started at 0.5 mg / kg. Turgay 4th ed. DSM-IV Based Child and Adolescent Behavioral Disorder Observation and Rating Scale (T-DSM) was filled by parents before psychostimulant treatment (T0), 1st month (T1) and 2nd month (T2) after stimulant. The researchers administered the Yale Global Tic Rating Scale and Barkley Stimulant Side Effect Rating Scale at T0, T1 and T2. Tics were triggered in 1 of 13 patients, tics continued with the same intensity in 3, the severity of tics decreased in 7, and tics did not occur in 2 of them. According to the Repetitive Measurement Anova Test, the decrease in motor tic, vocal tic, and total tic score was not statistically significant, while the decrease in the T-DSM-IV-TR attention deficit and hyperactivity subscales was significant. Neuroimaging analyzes are ongoing. We will analyze whether basal ganglia volume and basal ganglia FA values are correlated with the change in the Yale Global Tic Rating Scale with methylphenidate.
