DIAGNOSTIC VALUE OF DOUBLE INVERSION RECOVERY SEQUENCE IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Project no. 43 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
The aim of this project is to investigate the efficiency of 3D-DIR (“Double Inversion Recovery”) sequence in the detection of MS lesions and to compare it with 3D-FLAIR. This research was performed with a 1.5 Tesla Siemens Amira (Erlangen, Germany) scanner purchased under the project. A total of 100 patients were included in the study, 58 patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 42 patients with suspicion of MS. In addition to the routine brain MRI examination protocol, 3D-FLAIR and 3D-DIR sequences were acquired in all cases. These 2 sequences were compared for diagnostic efficacy. When 3D-FLAIR and 3D-DIR sequences are compared; DIR sequence has higher detection rate and lesion/parenchyma contrast, especially in cortical region and posterior fossa. As a result; The DIR sequence provides additional information to other sequences in the diagnosis, monitoring response to treatment, and detecting relapses in the MS patients. It is useful to add this sequence to the imaging protocols of these patients.
