DEVELOPMENT OF BRAILLE MATERIALS IN THE TURKISH MUSIC EDUCATION
Project no. 297 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
The education of visually impaired students is carried out in high schools with the support of an individual education program called BEP. That is, students are supported by working with individual teachers at certain hours a week. Books printed in Braille are also given by Ministry of Education. When the subject comes to universities, departments are trying to support themselves with various applications they create in their own structures. In 2006, Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory accepted for the first visually impaired student. Although the conditions were not perfect, until 2015, two visually impaired students were graduated from the individual training model. When we looked at institutions that provide music education at the undergraduate level of universities, we were cautious about accepting visually impaired students because of lack of sufficient experts and lack of development of educational materials. The obligation of visually impaired students to make improvements in the conditions for professional music education has come from visually impaired students as well as sharing the same conditions with other students in collective lectures and applying non-discriminatory methods to measurement and evaluation. In this context, learning of the Braille Music Notation by visual impaired students and developing of materials for these students and the training of an instructor for the future have been the starting point of the Project for the Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory. Cooperation with the Turkish Visually Impaired Library (Tür-Gök) within the scope of the project to be detailed in the notification is aimed especially at the development of report materials.
