Examination of the Effects of UV Aging Process on the Seam Performance of Knitted Fabrics

Project no. 28502 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2023

Summary

When reviewing the studies in the literature, it was found that there are studies investigating the changes in the properties of various fabric structures under the influence of UV radiation. However, in these studies, it was found that the changes in the properties of sewn fabrics and sewing threads caused by UV aging were ignored, and to the authors’ best knowledge no study examined the change in the sewing performance of sewn fabrics under the influence of UV radiation. The project deals with the changes in knitted fabrics and sewing threads, commonly used in the apparel industry, due to the influence of UV aging. For this purpose, the supplied fabrics were sewn with sewing threads according to the specified parameters, and the sewn samples were processed in the UV aging chamber for the specified times. The changes in the performance of fabrics and sewing threads were measured before and after the aging process (120-240 hours). The changes in the surface properties of fabrics and sewing threads after aging with UV rays were investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis, the changes in mechanical properties were studied using tensile tests, and the changes in internal structure were investigated using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR) tests. In addition, the sewing damage was also determined by measuring the needle hole area using the image analysis method.
