Project no. 1049 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Gürpınar Fish Market opened in Istanbul on September 1, 2015, and its operating conditions and physical conditions are close to world and European standards. The history of Istanbul's fish markets goes back to ancient times. Being a cultural and geographic intersection, Istanbul is a city that has made its home in various civilizations since its history. The most important point where different cultures living in this city come together is that all of them deal with fishing. There were important fishing centers and sales places in Istanbul during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. First, Eminönü, Beyoğlu and Kumkapı, and now serving in Gürpınar today. In our study, the history of the Istanbul Fish Market, understanding the physical conditions and functioning of the fish market operating in Gürpınar, as well as determining the number of sea products that have become according to years and social and economic characteristics of the people working as workers have been tried to be determined. In order to obtain data from the field, between October 2017 and October 2018, 47 people were interviewed face-to-face with the questionnaire consisting of open and closed questions and the data were evaluated in tables. In addition to the basic demographic questions such as age, marital status, and education, the questionnaire was asked questions to identify workers' thoughts and problems. As a result of the data obtained from the field, although the Gürpınar Fish Market has some physical and social deficiencies, all workers agree that the Fish Market is better than the Kumkapı Fish Market. As a negative aspect, the electronic auction has not yet started to operate and the social facilities in the region are limited and access to the new state is more difficult than Kumkapı. Most of the workers even consider moving to near-state places.
