Comparison of Fat Distribution by DEXA and Caliper Measurement of Patients Diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis by Liver Biopsy and Patients Diagnosed with Familial Partial Lipodystrophy

Project no. 32118 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024

Summary

Our study aims to determine whether there is a difference between the ratio of trunk fat to extremity fat in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) diagnosed by liver biopsy at Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital and the ratio of trunk fat to extremity fat in patients with lipodystrophy using DEXA and caliper measurement. The sample size of the NASH arm of this cross-sectional study was 40 patients who had previously undergone liver biopsy and were diagnosed with NASH. The lipodystrophy arm was planned to be selected to form a patient population statistically similar to the NASH arm in terms of age and gender. The patients will be called after their contact details are obtained, the purpose of the study will be explained, the patient group volunteering to participate in the study will be invited to the hospital, informed consent forms will be signed and caliper measurements and DEXA will be performed. SPSS 15.0 will be used for data analysis, measurement variables will be presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD) and classified data will be presented as number (n)-percentage (%) tables. The effect of independent variables on dependent variables will be shown by chi-square analyses and the effect of significant independent variables on dependent variables will be explained by logistic regression models. p < 0.05 will be considered significant.
