Recycling modification and characterization of mussel shell waste as biosorbent for boron removal from geothermal water
Project no. 22492 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary
Boron is an essential element for plants, humans and animals in many ways, it becomes toxic once the amount exceeds demand. According to WHO's guideline, the maximum uptake of boron in drinking water was set to 2.4 mg/L in 2011. In this study, mussel shells were examined as biosorbent. The geothermal water was provided from agricultural fields irrigated using geothermal water, Aydın, Egean region. The mussel shell waste was obtained from Serkan Hamza Midye Fish Farm, Balçova, Izmir. Their preparation, modification and characterization studies were done. In preparation process, rinsing, air drying, calcination process and cooling were done. As a characterization analysis, FTIR and TGAwere used. Mussel shells investigated as two types; modified mussel shells and unmodified mussel shells.
