A RESEARCH ON BACTERİAL AND ECTOPARASİTİC DİSEASES ON GOLD FİSH (Carassius auratus) FARMS İN TURKEY
Project no. 1157 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
In recent years, there has been an increase in ornamental and hobby aquarium farming in Turkey. Aquaculture is mainly carried out in soil ponds and polyester tanks in the Mediterranean Region, especially in Mersin and Antalya. In this study, a total of 480 samples were examined from two farms producing goldfish (Carassius auratus) in Mersin and Antalya. Sampling was performed for one year, with 20 fish per farm per month. Skin and gill scrapings were taken from these fish and parasitological examination was performed under microscope. Anterior kidney samples of fish were cultured in TSA (Triptic Soy Agar) to investigate bacterial disease agents. In the study, 5 different parasitic agents (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus extensus, Gyrodactylus sp. and Argulus japonicus) were found while only Aeromonas hydrophila was found as bacterial agent. Gyrodactylus sp. was the most observed parasite throughout the year and Aeromonas hydrophila was only detected in August. As a result of the study, the distribution of parasites and bacteria seen throughout the year in two fish farms in Antalya and Mersin provinces were revealed.
