Project no. 22624 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary
One of the measures taken for the Covid-19 Pandemic is to interrupt face-to-face education and switch to distance education. Nursing undergraduate students are one of the groups affected by distance education in terms of both theoretical and applied courses. In this direction, the study was conducted to examine the relationship between nursing students' views on distance education and their online learning environment commitment and self-regulation skills. The descriptive and relational study was conducted with 359 undergraduate nursing students who met the sampling criteria in Turkey between February and July 2021. Data were collected online (social media accounts, WhatsApp groups, etc.) via Google Forms, using the Student Information Form, the Attitudes towards Distance Education Scale, the Self-Regulation Attention Control Scale, the Student Engagement Scale in Online Learning Environments. In the study, a statistically significant positive correlation was found between nursing students' attitude scale score towards distance education, attention control scale score of self-regulation and student engagement scale score in online learning environments (p<0.05). At the same time, a statistically significant and moderately positive correlation was found between the self-regulation attention control scale score of nursing students and the student engagement scale score in online learning environments (p<0.05). As a result, the results of this study constitute evidence in terms of revealing student views on distance education in nursing education during the pandemic period. In order for students to feel more competent in terms of nursing education in the distance education process and to increase their positive attitudes towards distance education, the course content should be developed in a way that attracts the attention of the students, videos, simulations, animations, etc., in which the active participation of students will be ensured. It is recommended to improve with teaching techniques.
