Project no. 23111 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary

Eski Ürkmez Köyü was evacuated and abandoned to its fate due to the construction of the Ürkmez Dam. In the village, which was a settlement where Turkish and Greek populations lived side by side until the pre-Republican period, there are different types of structures such as mosques, fountains, residences and many Ottoman Era tombstones in the graveyard of the mosque. These works, which reflect the architectural identity of the Ottoman settlement, remain within the dam basin and are in the process of rapidly disappearing due to the dam being filled to a large extent in the winter season when rainfall is abundant. Understanding Ottoman art as a whole is possible by examining the works in both urban centers and rural settlements.

With this study, it is aimed to document and introduce different types of structures such as mosques, fountains, residences and many Ottoman Era tombstones in the mosque's graveyard in the Eski Ürkmez Köyü, which generally preserves its unique character.
