Production of Polyacetal (POM-Polyoxymethylene) Plastic Helical Gear and Investigation of Its Mechanical Properties

Summary
In this project, wear behavior of helical gears produced from Polyoxymethylene (POM) plastic material, wear behavior of spur and helical gears made of steel of the same weight together with spur gear made of POM material were investigated. Abrasion tests were carried out at different loads and speeds. With the increase of load and speed, wear losses were observed to increase in all gears. Helical POM gears have lower wear losses than plain POM gears. In helical POM gears of the same weight, wear losses close to plain steel gears have been observed. This situation, load etc. Considering other factors, it is concluded that helical gears produced from POM material may be more advantageous especially in terms of cost.
