Determination of some biological characteristics of Labrid fish (Pisces Labridae) in the Central and Southern Aegean Sea

Project no. 21703 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2020

Summary

Project was carried out in the Central and Southern Aegean Sea between 2020-2022. Samples were collected by gillnets from small scale fishing fleets and also passive fishing gears, rod and traps were used during samplings. Twelve species belonging to the Labridae family were identified and the total number of fish samples was 407. It was found that the Symphodus genus was the most dominant genus with 6 species and 292 individuals, followed by the Labrus genus with 4 species and 18 individuals, and finally the Coris and Thallasoma genus were represented by one species each. It has been revealed that the species range in total length from 6.8 cm (Symphodus cinereus) to 33.2 cm (Labrus bergylta). It has been determined that spawning generally occurs in spring and early summer and individuals are between the ages of 1-4. The difficulty in obtaining Labrid species is the most important issue limiting the project. Despite this, there is no doubt that the information and findings obtained will contribute to both the scientific literature and the marine aquarium industry.
