INVESTIGATION OF LIQUID PHASE OXIDATION OF LIMONEN BY USING ENCAPSULATED METAL CATALYST
Project no. 705 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
In this study, metal catalysts obtained from metal hydrate salts were prepared in laboratory conditions and tested in the liquid phase catalytic oxidation of limonene. As an oxygen source for liquid phase oxidation reaction, hydrogen peroxide is preferred as an environmentally friendly chemical. Ethyl acetate and acetone were used as the solvent to perform the reactions and their effects on the reaction were observed. In prepared catalysts, cerium oxide and iron oxide were used as the active material of the prepared catalysts and alumina, activated carbon and egg shell were used as catalyst supports. The experimental studies were carried out in a three neck glass reactor, using a temperature-controlled heater with magnetic stirrer. The reaction temperature was kept at 80 ° C and the reaction time was determined to be 6 hours. The products were determined by using gas chromatography. As a result of the experiments, the effects of the catalysts and the solvents used on the reaction were investigated. According to the results obtained from the experimental studies, the use of ethyl acetate as a solvent increases the conversion. In experiments on the oxidation of limonene using the ethyl acetate solvent and the CE / eggshell catalyst, the highest yield was obtained as 74%.
