İzmir ve Çevresinde Yabani Olarak Yetişen Allium Türlerinin Uçucu Yağ Profillerinin İncelenmesi ve Biyolojik Aktivitelerinin Belirlenmesi

Project no. 20257 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Genus Allium, which is included in the Amaryllidaceae family and represented by more than 900 taxa in the world and with 188 taxa in Turkey, has been used by the public since the middle ages due to the therapeutic effects of its species, such as garlic and onions, which are consumed extensively in the daily diet. It is sulfur compounds that give these plants their characteristic odor and taste and also have many pharmacological activities. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism and has two subtypes, type 1 and type 2. It is characterized by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. One of the mechanisms by which herbal products that can be used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes are active is the inhibition of ?-amylase and ?-glucosidase enzymes, which reduce glucose absorption. Accordingly, the essential oil compositions of seven different Allium species collected from İzmir and its surroundings within the scope of the project were investigated, and allicin and its degradation products: sulfites of thiosulfinate derivatives were determined. In addition, ?-amylase and ?-glucosidase enzyme inhibitory activities of methanol and distilled water extracts of plants plus essential oils were calculated as IC50 value. It was observed that the lowest activity potential belonged to Allium atroviolaceum plant whereas the most active values related to the plant of Allium guttatum subsp. sardoum.
