Summary
The antiatherosclerotic, antihyperlipidemic, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, anticarcinogenic and antibacterial effects of sesame oil have been demonstrated by researches. Due to these effects, it is used as a functional food in many countries. Turkey is also the recently increasing use in many pharmacies located in the associated transfer and sale of the company's products sesame oil. However, there is not enough information about the quality and properties of sesame oils in the market. There has been very limited research on these products. The qualities that sesame oil should have are included in the Turkish Pharmacopoeia 2017. With this study, quality controls of sesame oils sold in pharmacies and herbalists were made according to Turkish Pharmacopoeia 2017. In this study, the Turkish Pharmacopoeia stated for sesame oil in 2017; Relative density and refraction index values were measured from general properties. In addition, oils were compared with Thin Layer Chromatography. In our study, alkaline impurities in the oil and cottonseed oil search tests as foreign oil were also performed. As a result, of the oil samples examined; The relative density was between 0.913 and 0.922, the refraction index was between 1.472 and 1.475, the acid value was between 1.1274 and 31.3165, the peroxide value was between 3.5447 and 17.8444, and the unsaponifiable substance value was between 0.7293 and 15.8576. In Thin Layer Chromatography, it was concluded that an oil sample may contain impurities and possibly mixed with corn oil
