Heated Humidified High Flow Nasal Oxygen Therapy System (INYANOT-S)

Project no. 22330 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021

Summary

The flow rate of Oxygen therapy applied with the standard method is maximum 15 L/min. Higher values are needed in patients with acute respiratory failure. There are approximately 600 million patients in the world who need OT most frequently, and approximately 5 million in Turkey with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Medical oxygen systems in hospitals generally provide dry and cold oxygen. It is known that this situation encounters resistance to oxygen due to the anatomical structure of the upper airway, increases the metabolic need for heating and humidification, irritates the airway mucosa and causes mucosal drying and bleeding, and for these reasons results in the inability to exceed a certain flow rate (2-10 L/min). ). High-flow nasal cannula oxygen (YANKO) therapy, which has started to be used in emergency rooms and pediatric/adult intensive care units in patient groups of all ages with moderate and severe respiratory distress and has proven beneficial for many clinical situations; It is a safe and useful support treatment that can be applied up to very high flows (100L/min) after oxygen heating and humidification processes. With YANKO treatment, which is considered one of the non-invasive methods in the COVID-19 pandemic, the results have been seen to be even more satisfactory, and ventilator occupancy rates have decreased. It is currently recommended that OT be applied first to every patient with an indication. To date, domestic and national production of devices and consumables that provide YANKO treatment has not been possible. The costs of devices and consumables imported from abroad are high and they can only be used once per patient. For this reason, YANKO treatment increases the economic cost and there are difficulties in its supply. With the YANKO prototype product to be created in the project, it is aimed to reduce the problems experienced by other products in the market and to produce all its components within the scope of the project. As the project output, it is aimed to produce the first domestic and national YANKO device prototype product in Turkey, which has a different approach and is more efficient than other products on the market.
