Summary

Prevalence of Urinary System İnfection in Female Students Studying in Health Sciences, Genital Hygiene Behaviors and Affecting Factors

This research was planned as an analytical study in order to determine the Urinary System Infection Status, Genital Hygiene Behaviors and Affecting Factors in female students studying in Health Sciences. Urinary tract infection is a common infection in women and can progress asymptomatically. Individual hygiene issues are included in the education of students studying in health sciences. However, it is important for a healthy life to determine the situation of reflecting these trainings on their individual habits, to raise awareness, to demonstrate that infection can be diagnosed with an easy, simple and inexpensive method, and to diagnose the infection in the early period. For all these reasons, this research was needed. With this research, it is aimed to contribute to the literature. The universe of the research (n=774). All female students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences constitute the universe. The sample of the study consisted of female students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences and volunteering to participate in the research (n=102). All students who continued their education during the data collection period, volunteered to participate in the research, and participated in the procedures and training required for the research were included in the study.

In Data Collection; Socio-demographic questionnaire, a questionnaire prepared by using the literature to determine the menstrual and genital hygiene practices of the students, Genital Hygiene Behaviors Scale, Laboquick10 Parameter Urine Strip were used. The dependent variable of the study is the incidence of infection and the genital hygiene behaviors scale score. The independent variable is socio-demographic characteristics, genital hygiene behaviors. Questionnaires were administered face to face. In the analysis of data, mean, ±SD and median for continuous variables, frequency and percentage for categorical variables, χ2 test for analysis of categorical variables, t test and ANOVA test for independent groups will be used for analysis of continuous variables. According to the research findings; It was determined that the average age of the students was 20.55±1.60 years old. Midwifery is the highest rate of education for students, Dormitory is the highest rate of residence. How many times do students normally wash your hands during the day? They stated that they washed with soap and water 6-10 times at the highest rate of 51.0% and at the highest rate of 98.0% for hand cleaning. They reported that 54.9% of the students had a previous urinary system infection. In the test performed for the detection of urinary system infection, 25.5% of the students were infected. The mean score of the scale was determined as 97,0392 (min:72.00-max:113.00)

Keywords

Urinary system infection, University students, hygiene habits, urine test, urinary hygiene, genital hygiene behaviors
