Preparation of Biodegradable Polymer Hybrid Nanofibers by Electrospinning Method
Project no. 21619 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary
Today, nanotechnology is emerging as cutting-edge interdisciplinary technology with physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and medicine. Nanomaterials are important because they have different properties. It has applications in many fields such as catalysts, pharmaceutical industry, health, textile, optical materials, sensors. In this project, hybrid nanofibers were obtained by using hydrophobic polycaprolactone (PCL), hydrophilic montmorillonite clay and antibacterial silver nanoparticle (AgNP). First, Montmorillonite clay was modified by using cetyl trimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) using the traditional ion exchange method. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TG/DTG) methods were used for the characterization of the CTAB-Mt. Silver Nanoparticles (AgNP) were synthesized via reduction method. For AgNP particle size, images were obtained by using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Optimization conditions were decided by preparing PCL/CTAB-Mt and PCL/AgNP nanofibers at different concentrations. Optimal concentrations were determined to obtain hybrid nanofibers. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and contact angle measurements were performed for the characterization of the obtained nanofibers. The antibacterial properties of the nanofibers were investigated using the disk diffusion method. Hybrid nanofibers were found to be effective against Gram (+) and Gram (-) bacteria and indicated antibacterial properties.
