Determination the peroside level of different oil sources and investigation the development of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fish fed with oxidized oils

Project no. 22458 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021

Summary

This study aimed to examine the effects of feeding oxidized fish oil on growth performance, fatty acid exchange, blood parameters and liver histopathology in young Tilapia (Oreochromis spp) fish. In the experiment, 450 tilapia fry with an average live weight of 10 g were stocked in 9 120 liter closed circuit fiberglass tanks as 50 individuals/tank, in 3 groups with 3 repetitions. Trial feeds were formulated at commercial Tilapia feed values (35% crude protein and 8% crude fat) and produced in a laboratory environment. The difference was made in the peroxide value of the oil to be used in the feed. Anchovy fish oil with a peroxide value of 50> meq/kg (POV50) was added to the first of the trial feeds to be divided into three groups, and anchovy fish oil with a peroxide value of 100> meq/kg (POV100) was added to the second, and fresh fish oil (POV0) was added to the feed of the control group. To examine the fish growth parameters, the average live weights and total lengths of the fish were taken every 21 days throughout the experiment. Chemical analysis of trial feeds, feed raw materials and fish carcasses were performed to determine nutritional value, and fatty acid, Para-anisidine and peroxide analyzes were performed in oils and feeds to evaluate oil quality. In order to monitor oxidation-related changes in fish, fatty acid analyses, blood parameters and liver histopathology analyzes were performed on 3 fish taken from each tank at the beginning of the experiment, monthly during the experiment and at the end of the experiment. In addition, the study also investigated whether correlating changes in blood biochemistry with histopathological changes in fish liver could be used as a marker of fatty liver. It is thought that the results to be obtained on the proposed subject will contribute to the scientific literature. Other expected results of this project proposal are that it will create both academic and sectoral cooperation between Sudan and Turkey and contribute to the knowledge of both countries on Tilapia fish production and feed quality.
