Magnetic resonance imaging - Based Tumor Segmentation and 3D Printing Modeling for the Surgical Planning of Breast Cancer
Project no. 26347 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2023
Summary
<p>This study aimed to create patient-based three-dimensional (3D) breast and tumor models using breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and to evaluate their use in preoperative planning. 10 patients diagnosed with breast cancer were included in the study. Preoperative breast MRI examinations of all patients were evaluated. Images were obtained from 1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI. Tumor segmentation was performed from DICOM images. The images were converted to STL format, and full-size breast and tumor models were produced using a 3D printer. The prepared models were evaluated by the surgical team before and during surgery. Histopathological results revealed invasive ductal carcinoma in 5 patients, invasive 5 ductal carcinoma with ductal carcinoma in situ component in 2 patients, invasive lobular carcinoma in 2 patients, and invasive cribrifom carcinoma in 1 patient. In all cases, the lesions were excised at the correct localization. Only in one patient was a surgical margin of approximately 0.1 cm due to a superficially located lesion close to the skin. In all other patients, the surgical margins were adequate. Breast MRI-based 3D modeling facilitates surgical planning, especially in non-palpable lesions, and is a method that can be added to routine practice.
