DEVELOPMENT OF A THERMAL MEDICAL GLOVE AGAINST COLD PROTECTION FOR RHEUMATISMAL DISEASES
Project no. 1087 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Raynaud and scleroderma are rheumatismal diseases characterised by the skin hardening of fingers and toes whose attacks and pains get more severe especially when exposed to cold. It is a fact that there is no effective treatment for these diseases and it is cited in many references that the importance of keeping hands warm is the key point. One of the most important products to improve the quality of life of these rheumatic patients is the gloves. The project aims at developing thermal medical gloves against cold protection for rheumatismal diseases such as raynaud and scleroderma. For this purpose, in the first step of the project, various hybrid yarns were produced by using technical yarns having properties such as thermal insulation, moisture transmission, breathability and antibacterial. In the second stage, gloves were produced using a) 100% of the same material, b) different materials for face and back sides, c) different materials for regional parts (finger-palm part) by utilizing the glove manufacturing technology. The proposed gloves will be tested in terms of thermal comfort (thermal resistance, air permeability and moisture management capability), abrasion and puncture resistance and for antibacterial activity. Gloves produced with Nilit Innergy+Dri Release+100% antibacterial acrylic, Thermolite +35/35/30% antibacterial acrylic/PES/Viscose, Dri Release + 35/35/30% antibacterial acrylic /PES/Viscose / Nilit Innergy yarns have been found to have the best thermal comfort and moisture transmission performances. It is suggested that the use of these glove types by reyno and scleroderma patients will offer advantages in terms of comfort.
