Analysis of Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids by LCQTOFMS
Project no. 21099 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are toxic substances found in flowers and transmitted to humans indirectly. The importance of developing reliable, accurate, and sensitive analytical methods for the analysis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are known to have toxic properties even in very low amounts, is increasing day by day. With this project, different and new, unique, and sensitive analytical methods will be developed for the extraction of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from foods of plant and animal origin, thereby contributing to food safety. Analysis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids found in plant and animal foods will be performed by liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight/mass spectroscopy (LC-Q-TOF/MS). In this context, the detection of selected pyrrolizidine alkaloids and pyrrolizidine alkaloids-N-oxides will be increased by analyzing them with a sensitive device that can analyze with full mass at high resolution. Thus, it will be ensured that reliable, sensitive, high-recovery, and accurate extraction and chromatographic analysis will be performed. With the analysis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, the presence of these toxic substances in foods will be controlled and the status of these substances in foods will be revealed. Since the analysis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids and pyrrolizidine alkaloids-N-oxides is critical for both food safety and human health, they will be analyzed in different food products, and the substances that affect public health will be analyzed in the most effective way, thus contributing to food safety.
