Özet

Maize is an extremely important grain plant produced widely in our country and in the world. In this study, 96 different maize inbred lines from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) were cultivated under drought and control applications in field conditions and the responses of lines to drought stress were examined in terms of leaf temperature. As a result of the screening, the responses of the lines to water stress were determined in the later days of drought application and as a result of the statistical analysis, it was determined that control and drought applications had significant effects on leaf temperatures of the genotypes. Two lines (Ames 26783 and NSL 30869) with contrast values for leaf temperature under drought conditions were then identified and crosses were made between these two lines. DNA samples were taken from the F1 generations of the hybrid population and hybridization was controlled. F2 generation was obtained as a result of selfing of the F1 plants, which were confirmed to be hybrid. F2 generation of the Ames 26783 x NSL 30869 hybrid was grown under field conditions and the responses of 150 plants to water stress under stress conditions were measured with respect to leaf temperature. Leaf temperature in the F2 generation ranged from 26 to 34 oC and there was a high variation in single plant values. As a result, leaf temperature showed a great variation under drought stress and it was determined that this trait is a suitable phenotyping method to be used in the development of water stress tolerant lines.
