Summary

The systems used in the production of metal nanoparticles by conventional approaches are generally high energy input, high-cost processes. In addition, these processes involve the use of harmful chemicals that are not environmentally friendly. As an alternative production method, green synthesis is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, biocompatible, rapid, and safe approach in which nanoparticles are synthesized using bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae and plants. The active compounds contained in marine plants indicate that they may have a high potential for use in biogenic synthesis. The seagrass species Posidonia oceanica and Zostera marina, which are endemic to the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea, are described as the lungs of the ecosystem due to their high oxygen production. The leaves of these seagrasses can be separated from their stems during their life cycles and because of various negative activities and can be collected as mats in the sea or can be carried to the seacoasts due to currents. In this project, firstly, seagrass wastes waiting to be utilized on touristic coastal coasts were collected. The phenolic compounds and carbohydrates found in these waste leaves were aimed to be used in the biogenic synthesis of metal nanoparticles. In the extraction of these compounds, a non-toxic choline chloride:urea (1:2) deep eutectic solvent system, which is environmentally friendly and biodegradable compared to the solvents used in conventional extraction systems, was preferred. In this way, silver, titanium and zinc nanoparticles were produced for use in different fields by combining waste materials waiting to be utilized with an environmentally friendly extraction approach. Optimization procedures were performed both in the extraction and synthesis stages. In DLS method, the size of silver nanoparticle was measured as 177.2, titanium nanoparticle as 99.3 and zinc nanoparticle as 358 nm. With the characterization and activity studies, the antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of silver nanoparticle and the photocatalytic activity of titanium nanoparticle were found to be the best.
