DEVELOPMENT OF A TEST DEVICE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF BREATHABILITY OF MEDICAL FACE MASKS

Project no. 22529 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

The epidemic, which started in Wuhan city of Hubei, province of China at the end of December 2019 and was named “COVID-19 pandemic” by the World Health Organization on February 11, 2020, spread to many countries in a short time, especially Asian continent countries, after China and spread to the whole World and reached an international dimension. One of the reasons why WHO declared this epidemic as a pandemic is that the new virus spreads easily and quickly by being transmitted from person to person. There are various measures to prevent the epidemic in question. One of the most important of these is the use of personal hygiene and protective equipment. After the start of the epidemic, a lot of information has been put forward by the media and various organizations that masks are ineffective and can potentially increase the risk of infection. On the other hand, research shows that when used correctly, the mask reduces the risk of infection. The need for a large amount of masks suitable for the purpose during the pandemic process has caused many companies to turn to this field, which has led to the production of many products in the market that either meet the requirements of the relevant mask standards or not. At this stage, quality control studies to determine whether various masks produced by different companies provide adequate protective properties have become more important. The aim of this project is to develop an innovative test device, measuring the "Breathability" feature which is among the physical properties that face masks that play a role in preventing the spread of the epidemic and the developed testing instrument is different from the patented devices in the international literature, and better simulate the direction and shape of air movement during mask use and is more sensitive
