INVESTIGATING THE USABILITY OF FABRICS CONTAINING RECYCLED YARNS IN TERMS OF CLOTHING COMFORT
Project no. 694 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
In recent years, with the increase in global awareness of environmental problems, apparel manufacturers and consumers have turned to eco-friendly clothing. While eco-friendly applications in the previous years meant extra spending, it has seen that these practices bring an added value to the product. Now, consumers are looking for recycled garments and manufacturers are exploring ways to meet these demands. Within the scope of the study, the availability of recycled fabrics for casual wear was investigated by comparing them with the commercial fabrics. In this context, firstly, the yarn types that can be used in the study were researched by interviewing the companies producing recycled yarn. Yarns containing 45% recycled cotton and 55% polyester were obtained. Fabrics of these yarns were knitted in single jersey construction. In order to compare these yarns and fabrics, 50% cotton 50% polyester yarns, which are frequently used by the apparel companies in casual wear, were knitted with the same parameters. As a result of physical and comfort tests carried out on yarns and fabrics, it is predicted that recycled fabrics can be used for casual wear.
