Synthesis and Characterization of New Vinyl-Saccharides Based on D-Glucose and D-Mannose
Project no. 23394 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022
Summary

The inability of industrial polymers to be destroyed by natural processes, their contribution to environmental pollution and their reliance on exhaustible resources have prompted the search for alternative starting materials in polymer synthesis. There has been a focus on the use of sustainable materials in many production areas and carbohydrate-based polymers have emerged as an exciting research topic for polymer research. Carbohydrates, which are among the most important renewable resources, are very suitable raw materials for polymer synthesis because they are cheap, easily available, environmentally friendly and show significant stereochemical diversity. Consequently, monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides derived from natural resources will be capable of supplying the requisite raw materials for the manufacture of a multitude of industrial products. In this project, new vinyl-saccharides that can be used to prepare carbohydrate-based renewable polymeric materials have been synthesized. Inexpensive, abundant and renewable sugar molecules such as D-mannose and D-glucose and were used as starting materials. Based on these starting materials, 3 new carbohydrate based molecules were synthesised and their structures were established using spectroscopic analysis techniques such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FT-IR and their structures were determined as 3-O-methacroyl-5,6-O-isopropylidene-1,2-O-(S)-trichloroethylidene-b-D- glucofuranose (7), 3-O-methacroyl-5,6-O-isopropylidene-1,2-O-(S)-trichloroethylidene-b-D- glucofuranose (8), 3-O-methacroyl-5,6-O-isopropylidene-1,2-O-(S)-trichloroethylidene-b-D- mannofuranose (9).
