Development of 3D Knitted Structures for Composite Applications

Project no. 738 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Technical yarns and textile composites are gainng weight day by day. To form the textile composites besides production techniques such as weaving, knitting and non-woven braiding technique is yet another one. In this study, it is aimed to built up a radial braiding machine and to manufacture composite bars by using high performance technical yarns with braiding technique.Within the scope of the study, a radial braiding machine is built up in laboratory and e-glass, carbon and aramid yarns were used to form tubular braided structures. These braided textile forms then laminated with epoxy resin and composite bars were produced. According to ASTM D3039 and ASM D790 tensile and bending properties of the bars were also determined.
