Project no. 22917 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary
Objective: This study was carried out to examine the birth experiences of midwives working in the delivery room with pregnant women who attended pregnancy information class or pregnant school, and to determine the contribution of pregnant schools to birth. Method: This study, which was conducted as a qualitative study with a phenomenological pattern, was interviewed with 18 midwives working in the delivery room. Criterion sampling method, snowball sampling method, and maximum variation sampling method, which are the purposeful sampling type, were used to determine the research group. As a criterion for participation in the research group, the condition of having normal birth with the pregnant women who attended the pregnancy information class/school was taken as a basis. The data of the research were collected by the researcher by conducting individual in-depth interviews with the participants via Google Meet, Zoom applications, and telephone. The interviews were video recorded or audio recorded. The research data were analyzed by the researchers in the MaxQda 2020 qualitative data analysis program. In the analysis of the data, inductive qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis were used to create the themes and codes within the scope of the research. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist was used to in this study. Findings: As a result of the analysis of the qualitative data obtained from the interviews with the midwives; Three main themes were obtained: the differences created by the pregnant schools, the advantages offered by the participation in the pregnant schools, and the obstacles to the participation in the pregnant schools. Eight sub-categories were determined as three categories in the theme of the differences created by pregnant schools, two categories in the theme of the advantages of participating in pregnant schools, and three categories in the theme of barriers to participation in pregnant schools. Conclusion: The findings showed that pregnant schools/classes are an effective strategy in promoting normal delivery. Participation in pregnant schools should be encouraged because of the contribution of participating in the pregnancy school to the newborn, the pregnancy, the birth process, and the midwives. There is a need to develop new and effective strategies to increase participation in pregnant schools. Keywords: Childbirth preparation education; pregnant school; Experiences of midwives
