Investigation and characterization of the effect of organic/inorganic acid mixtures on cellulose nanocrystal production
Project no. 24199 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022
Summary

The evaluation of cellulosic textile wastes in many areas and their transformation into useful materials are important recent studies. The wastes generated in textile enterprises are valuable because they are cellulose-based, environmentally friendly, renewable and natural polymers. The wastes in enterprises are defined as pre-consumer wastes. For this reason, the transformation of pre-consumer solid wastes, which have economic value, is important for both enterprises and nature. Nanocelluloses are one of the most important recent studies; they can be used in many areas such as construction, polymer, plastic, energy, defense, agriculture, automobile, and biotechnology.

This study aims to transform cellulosic textile wastes into nanomaterials by acid hydrolysis. Within the scope of the study, the acid hydrolysis step will be carried out after the stages of collecting, identifying and performing pretreatments of the wastes. A parametric study will be carried out by determining the working ranges for different organic and inorganic acids, temperature and experimental period in acid hydrolysis. In the acid hydrolysis stage, an efficiency-based optimization study will be carried out for the determined parameters using the Surface Response Method as an experimental design method.

CNC production from textile waste is a versatile and sustainable approach that combines environmental protection, resource efficiency, economic development, and social benefit. This project offers a solution to industrial waste management and is important for sustainable material production.
