Establishing the present status of the fish fauna in Sapanca Lake and the Investigation of Its Sustainable Using

Project no. 23151 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021

Summary

The study aimed to determine the fish fauna and distribution ratios of the species of Sapanca Lake and its flowing streams. Sampling was carried out by standard benthic and pelagic gill nets which are suitable to “TS EN 14757 and 14011 Water Quality” critters in the lake, but in streams by electroschocker model“SAMUS 725 G” was used. By the end of the field samplings in two different seasons, which were accepted as wet and dry, 26 species belonging to 14 families were determined. In the account of species diversity, it was found that the Leuciscidae family was the first with nine species, followed by Gobiidae with four and Clupeidae with two species, and the remaining 11 families have only one species in the study period. Notably, Rhodeus amarus is the dominant species, with 78.1% and 28.3% abundance in both streams and lakes, respectively. In the lake, after R. amarus, the most abundant species were Blicca bjoerkna (7.2%), Clupeonella cultriventris (3.2%) and Atherina boyeri (3.2%). One of the important results of the study is that species with high commercial value, such as Silurus glanis, Esox lucius and Cyprinus carpio are almost negligible in number, with 4, 8 and 1 specimens, respectively. Apart from this, the invasive species Carassius gibelio, which was found in previous studies in the lake, was not observed during the study period, which is pleasing for the biodiversity in the lake. Besides that, Leucaspius delineatus was recorded for the first time from the lake basin.
