The Effect of Plant Growth Regulator Paclobutrazol (PP333) on Growth and Some Turf Quality Traits of Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) Varieties
Project no. 22051 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2020
Summary

Mowing is a stress factor for turf plants and a process that costs as much as irrigation, fertilization and spraying in the maintenance of lawns. Reducing the number of mowing, which is one of the most important processes in the maintenance of turf areas, is of great importance in terms of both reducing maintenance costs and providing flexibility in maintenance operations. Paclobutrazol (PP333), a triazole derivative growth inhibitor, is one of the chemicals that can control growth in many plant species even at low doses by stopping the biosynthesis of gibberellin.

In this study, the effects of plant growth regulator Paclobutrazol (PP333) doses (0-100-200-400-600-800-1.000 ppm) on the growth and some turf quality traits of some perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) cultivars (Capri, Esquire, Stolawn, Tetragreen) were investigated. The research was carried out under controlled conditions in the laboratories of the Department of Field Crops, Faculty of Agriculture, Ege University in 2021-2022. Plant height (cm), texture (mm), colour (1-9 scores), visual turf quality (1-9 scores), clipping yield (g m-2), dry matter content (%) and dry matter yield (g m-2) traits were measured.

The results showed that Paclobutrazol applications were effective on the growth and turf quality characteristics of perennial ryegrass varieties even at low doses. In particular, it was revealed that Paclobutrazol doses up to 400 ppm increase the turf quality traits and have a partially negative effect after this level.
