Project no. 23216 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021

Summary

Turkey has had a rich biodiversity throughout geological periods due to its habitat characteristics, high altitude diversity, location and climate conditions. Conservation and sustainability of species is only possible by knowing their habitats and characteristics. The use of photo traps in wildlife observations has become quite widespread in recent years. This thesis aims to reveal the large mammal diversity in Izmir – Yamanlar Mountain by using photo traps.

Within the scope of the study; monitoring was carried out at 20 different stations with 4 photo traps for a period of 1 year and 2 months and a total number of 1704 photo trap days was reached. As a result of the study, a total of 7 different species, including Vulpes vulpes (fox), Sus scrofa (wild boar), Martes foina (rock marten), Lepus europeus (hare), Meles meles (badger), Felis silvestris (wild cat) and Canis lupus (wolf), were found to live in the region. Species records were analyzed according to their monthly, seasonal and hourly distribution and the data were graphed.

Canis lupus (wolf), which has not been recorded in Western Anatolia for many years and was identified in this study, is an important record for the region.
