Summary
With the development of the industry, solutions for increasing environmental problems are needed. Particularly the petrochemical industry has a negative impact on the environment of the resulting wastes, which puts the organisms in aquatic life and human health at risk. The release of industrial wastes into the ecosystem without full or no purification results in adverse effects on ecosystem members. Since wastes are mostly xenobiotic (difficulty degradable) and do not show toxic effects on living organisms, they need to be remedied and treated. In this doctoral thesis; the petrochemical industry is located in wastewaters; Consortium were cultivated with bacteria that allow the removal of terephthalic acid (TA), paratoluic acid (p-tol) and 4-carboxybenzaldehyde (4-cba) chemicals by routes of microbiological. The bacterial consortium was consisted of 16 organisms. It has been lyophilized with appropriate preservatives and tested at the end of the annual shelf life in an activated sludge system cured in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) of consortium. Selected microorganisms were followed by qPCR and microbiota by DGGE. Biodegradation rates of TA (40 mg/L), p-tol (40 mg/L) and 4-cba (30 mg/L) chemicals were determined and 100% removal was achieved. Molecular studies have shown that Aeromonas sp.,Chryseobacterium sp., Raoultella planticola and Comamonas testosteroni species dominated.
