Investigation of the Thermal Comfort Properties of Knitted Fabrics Produced with Fancy Yarns

Project no. 1345 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Nowadays, fancy yarns have become important due to their different appearance and usage characteristics. Different fancy yarns can be manufactured by varying the material type, material properties (yarn/roving or sliver) and production parameters. Slub yarns are one of the subgroup of fancy yarns and differ from the conventional single and folded yarns by deliberately produced irregularities in its construction. These differences in their structure also change the fabric properties and application areas. The aim of this study is to investigate the physical and thermal comfort properties of the single jersey knitted fabrics produced from slub yarns with different production parameters. For this purpose, initially, slub yarns were spun in ring spinning machine by varying the yarn production parameters (slub length, slub thickness and slub distance). These yarns were used for the production of single jersey knitted structures with and without elastane. Finally, the dimensional (course/cm, wale/cm, loop length), the physical (weight, thickness, dimensional stability after washing, spirality, friction coefficient and abrasion resistance) and thermal comfort properties (air permeability and thermal conductivity, thermal resistance and thermal absorptivity) were analysed comparatively. The results indicated that, fabrics produced with slub length 10 mm, slub thickness 2.0 and slub distance 100 mm due to higher air permeability, water vapour permeability and thermal conductivity characteristics can be preferable for hot climate clothes.
