EXPERIMENTAL INVESTGATION OF AIR SIDE HEAT TRANSFER IN CIRCULAR FIN-AND-TUBE BUNDLES AND FLOW CHARACTERISTICS
Project no. 731 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this thesis, air side heat transfer in circular fin-and-tube bundles and flow characteristics was investigated experimentally. For the experimental studies carried out throughout the thesis, the L-footed spiral type circular finned tube heat exchanger was used. The tube bundle arrangement in which the L-footed spiral type circular fins are placed in the heat exchanger is staggered tube arrangement. In the heat exchanger, the fins and tube were made of carbon steel. Experimental studies were carried out using water and air in the energy laboratory of Ege University Department of Mechanical Engineering. Experimental studies were carried out at 5 different water inlet temperatures of 45°C, 50°C, 55°C, 60°C, 65°C and 4 different air velocity inlet 3,3 m/s; 4,7 m/s; 6,1 m/s; 7,6 m/s. During the test, the volumetric flow rate of the water is constant and the Reynolds number of the air is between 7900 and 18500. In the thermal calculations after the experiment, ?-NTU method was used and air side heat transfer coefficent, the Colburn and friction factors were calculated. The Colburn and friction factor results were obtained. MATLAB curve was formed and new equations related to these results were derived. Finally, the Colburn and friction factor results obtained with the experimental results and the equations which derived from MATLAB were compared with the results which obtained with the equations given in literature.
