Preparation of acetate containing cellulose and investigation of its Beryllium (Be2+) removal performance

Project no. 20310 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

In this work, diacetate-containing cellulose was prepared and applied for Be2+ removal from aqueous solutions. The effects of sorbent dose and initial solution pH on the removal of Be2+ were investigated. In addition, Be2+ removal mechanism and reaction kinetics were determined by sorption isotherms and kinetic studies. The spectrometric method by using Leucoquinizarin has been applied to the determination of beryllium in aqueous solutions. The optimum sorbent dose for Be2+ removal found as 0.3 g, and the working pH range found ? 4. Kinetic studies showed that removal kinetic of Be2+ is fast and in 3 minutes, 88% of Be2+removal achieved. Isotherm sorption data displayed a good correlation with the Langmuir model. Removal of Be2+ by prepared sorbent was a spontaneous process (?G<0). The diacetate containing cellulose can be regenerated with 0.1 M HCl or H2SO4.
