THE IMPORTANCE OF AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD REPLACEMENT IN LUNG TRANSPLANTATION AND CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY
Project no. 42 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Bleeding during the operation is still an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients. During the operation, blood / blood product replacement may be required in the majority of patients despite appropriate fluid and volume replacement. Especially in organ transplantation and cardiovascular surgery, this need becomes more evident. Despite all the precautions, the complications of this procedure are serious. These problems directed the researchers to the studies aimed at minimizing blood loss and the importance of blood preserving techniques has once again emerged. In this study, it was investigated the role of autotransfusion in the reduction of complications such as disseminated intravascular coagulation, acute and chronic rejection, acute respiratory distress syndrome or bleeding-related revision surgery and minimizing allogeneic blood transfusion that may occur due to blood and blood product transfusion in lung transplantation and cardiovascular surgery operations. In this regard, it was found that the need for blood transfusion was reduced in the operations requiring blood product and transfusion-related complications were less common in patients who underwent autotransfusion
