RELIABILITY OF AUTOMATIC VOLUME CALCULATION PROGRAMS IN LIVING LIVER DONOR CANDIDATES AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO SURGICAL PLANNING

Project no. 146 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

In our study, two different CT volumetry programs (manual program and an automated liver segmentation software) were used. The calculated right lobe of the liver volumes were compared with the post-operative right lobe volumes. In this way, we investigated the reliability of the two programs. In this study, Liver Surgery Planning program included in the PACS system (Sectra, Sweden) was used. Twenty patients who were eligible to be living donors for liver transplantation were included in the study. Volume calculation of the right lobe of the liver used for transplantation was performed using Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography images. Volume calculation was performed both the classical (manual) method and Liver Surgery Planning program. Volumetric CT results of the right lobe were compared postoperative graft weights. In our study, the liver right lobe volumes calculated in both manual and automatic programs were found to be higher than the real graft weights (volumes). The liver right lobe volumes calculated by CT volumetry programs were higher than the manual program. All volumetric differences were statistically significant (p <0.001). As a result, It is thought that the automatic volumetry program will be useful in clinical use because it provides volume values with an accuracy similar to the manual program in a shorter time.
