Synthesis and Characterization of New Coumarin Derivatives from Salicyl Aldehyde Derivatives

Project no. 28465 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023

Summary

In this project, α-D-galactose were used as starting sugars. First of acetyl derivatives of α-D-galactose was synthesized by the reaction of acetic anhydride and sodium acetate. In the presence of this synthesized compounds HBr and CH3COOH, decomposed and unstable bromine derivative was obtained as a result of the reaction at the anomeric carbon. Then, in the first step, sugar-based salicylaldehyde derivatives were formed by reacting with salicylaldehyde and ethylenediamine. In the second step, the bromine derivative of galactose was reacted with coumarin and ethylenediamine, and sugar-based coumarin and its Schiff base derivative were synthesized. The synthesized salicylaldehyde and coumarin derivatives were purified by column chromatography. The structures of the purely obtained compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, UV, FT-IR, melting point determination and elemental analysis methods.
