Evaluation of Some Risks in Microbiology Research Laboratories in a Sample Educational İnstitution

Summary
With the establishment of the inspection mechanism in our country, the problems that have arisen have become more noticeable, and working environments have been made safe and various improvements have been made in order to eliminate these problems within the scope of laws. With the trainings and guidance activities of the occupational safety specialist, the laboratory staff not only learns the basic laboratory safety rules, but also has information on how to work safely with chemicals. Chemicals used in laboratories pose significant risks to health and the environment. In addition, the physical conditions in the work area are very important in terms of the rate of work accidents. It has been discussed that if precautions are not taken in laboratory activities that are dangerous/very dangerous, occupational accidents and occupational diseases are high, situations that result in death may occur, and accordingly, the necessity of taking some precautions according to the danger level of the research laboratories in the university. The data obtained by making environmental measurements and the exposure values were brought into compliance with the legislation, and studies were carried out on regulatory and preventive activities. In this thesis, it has been examined how the work on the implementation and regulation of the responsibilities related to occupational safety in the Public Institution, which has recently become aware of, will be done, and the action plans that should be carried out within the scope of the legal regulation, which is expected to come into effect for the Public Institutions and Organizations on 31 December 2023. With the data obtained as a result of the thesis study, a study was carried out to accelerate the adaptation process of microbiology research laboratories to the conditions that need to be renewed.
