Production, Characterization of Cationic Fatliquoring Agent Consisting Esterquat and Research On Improvement of Leather Properties

Project no. 21632 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2020

Summary

In this study, esterquat-containing functional cationic fatliquor agent, which can be dispersed in water, whose particle size is controlled, and which can provide the leather with properties such as handle, softness, waterproofing and fiber insulation, has been produced. Fatliquor was used in the form of adding the chrome-tanned leathers to the production drum at certain rates (0.5-4%) after the dyeing-retanning-fixation process. Leathers treated using cationic lubricant were evaluated in comparison with control samples subjected to a standard retanning-lubrication treatment. Physical properties of finished leather such as thickness increase, shrinkage temperature, tensile strength, tear strength, water resistance were determined using standard test methods. In addition, the effect of cationic fatliquor agent on dyestuff exhaustion was determined by spectrophotometric method.

As a result, it has been concluded that with the application of the produced cationic lubricant to the leathers at the end of fixation, the properties such as the handle and softness of the leather have improved, and especially the waterproofing properties have increased significantly. Moreover, It has been observed that lubricating emulsions containing esterquat also increase anionic dyestuff exhaustion.
