Studies on the Use of Solid Digestate from Biogas Production in Asparagus Cultivation
Project no. 32334 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024
Summary

The application of organic fertilizer is a sustainable approach to maintain soil fertility in agricultural crop production. In contrast to other organic fertilizers, it is important to determine the agronomic properties of the fermented products from biogas plant production in order to manage them sustainably. The trials were conducted during the 2024 growing season on the producer’s land, in a three-year-old asparagus plantation consisting of the ‘Sunlim’ variety, using a randomised block design with three replicates. In this study, the following fertilization treatments using solid digestate were examined with the aim of evaluating asparagus growth, yield and spear quality, as well as the nutrient content of spear, leaf, stem and root: control (U1: unfertilized), farmer’s practice (U2), 100% solid digestate (U3), 100% chemical fertilizer (U4), 75% solid digestate + 25% chemical fertilizer (U5), 50% solid digestate + 50% chemical fertilizer (U6) and 25% solid digestate + 75% chemical fertilizer (U7). The data indicated that the U5 and U7 treatments increased asparagus growth, yield and yield parameters, although the U6 treatment had a positive effect on spear thickness. Furthermore, although all applications provided adequate nutrition, it was determined that the U6 and U7 applications performed slightly better. These results suggest that the combined use of digestate with chemical fertilizers can improve asparagus growth, yield and spear quality, thereby enabling a reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers.

Key Words: Solid digestate, asparagus, fertilization, quality, yield, nutrient content
