Development of Ideal Radiotherapy Respiration Monitoring System Using Different Sensorin Working Principles

Project no. 20229 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

In this thesis; to be using in radiotherapy, Sensors with different operating principles have been tested, the optimum solutions for an efficient respiratory tracking system that will track the breathing movement by following the movements of the human chest wall were examined. The main methods that are effective in cancer treatment are surgical treatment, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In parallel with the developments in physics and computer technology, radiotherapy methods have been developed and more than 90% of radiotherapy applications are performed under the control of computers. In radiotherapy, the reduction of side effects in irradiation of tumors and the ability to deliver higher doses in smaller treatment areas is the most important target for more effective fight with the tumor. In the light of this goal, less tumor movement is desired when breathing modulated radiotherapy techniques are developed and hence the movement of the tumor and surrounding organs along with respiration poses are problem during radiotherapy irradiation. Respiratory modulated radiotherapy systems have been developed to overcome this problem. Many respiratory monitoring systems have different operating principles, but many of them have equipment to reduce the working efficiency and disturb the patient. In this thesis; various programming languages, image processing techniques, Arduino microcontroller card and sensors with different operating principles are used to determine the responses to these problems.
