Project no. 22766 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary

Mask, generally defined as equipment that protects people against elements such as dust, particles, and particles that emerge from physical, chemical, and biological structures, can be crucial. To prevent the spread of a viral infection among healthcare workers and from workers to other individuals, the healthcare community often relies on the effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with disposable medical masks being a primary component. Disposable medical masks are produced with different materials and models.

With the global impact of the Covid-19 disease affecting millions of people simultaneously worldwide, medical masks have transitioned from being solely personal protective equipment used by healthcare professionals to becoming equipment used by the entire society in daily life.

The lack of research on medical masks contributes to various and conflicting country policies and guidelines on this matter. This project aims to develop disposable surgical mask models with increased protective features for healthcare workers and public health, along with high usability comfort compared to existing masks. In line with this goal, the most suitable material combination and material weight for disposable medical masks have been determined, and model features that provide ergonomic compatibility with the body under different environments and conditions have been identified. The benefits of creating mask size sets based on users' physiological characteristics have been emphasized.

In the this project, the use of ultrasonic welding in the joining of disposable medical masks is believed to contribute to the ecological and economic dimensions of sustainability.
