EPİTELYAL KÖKENLİ PARANAZAL SİNÜS TÜMÖRLERİNDE HPV 16,18,31,33 SUBTİPLERİNİN PROGNOZA ETKİSİNİN İMMÜNHİSTOKİMYA VE PCR İLE DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Project no. 147 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Paranasal sinus tumors constitute an important part of head and neck malignancies. Most of the paranasal sinus tumors are of epithelial origin and 80% of them are squamous cell carcinoma. In recent years, the effectiveness of human papilloma virus (HPV) and its effect on prognosis have been raised in both head and neck cancers and paranasal sinus tumors. HPV positivity has been associated with prognosis especially in oropharyngeal tumors and new staging systems have emerged. Studies on the effect of HPV subtypes on prognosis and disease course in paranasal sinus tumors are very limited. The unique feature of our study is that it will reveal the prognostic value of HPV subtypes in paranasal sinus tumors. For this purpose, in our study, the effect of HPV subtypes from the pathological preparations of patients who were previously operated for the epithelial paranasal sinus tumor at the EÜTF Otorhinolaryngology Clinic was evaluated. In line with the data obtained as a result of the project, HPV 16 genotype positivity was found in only one patient. This result does not provide sufficient data to evaluate the correlation between HPV positivity and prognosis. Therefore, it can be suggested that HPV positivity may not have a direct role in the development and prognosis of epithelial- paranasal sinus tumors in our sample group.
